Thank You for Your Support! Vinnytsia Mayor Serhii Morhunov Congratulated Poland on Independence Day

Today, November 11, the day the First World War ended, Poland's Independence Day is celebrated.

Poland is believed to have gained its independence on November 11, 1918, after 123 years of being divided between different empires. However, in 1939 the country underwent a new division and Independence Day was not officially celebrated until 1989.

On the day of the national holiday for the Polish people, Vinnytsia Mayor Serhii Morhunov congratulated our friends and partners on the holiday on behalf of the entire Vinnytsia community.

"Poland was the first to recognize Ukraine's independence in 1991, and now it is in the first line of countries that support us in the fight for sovereignty," the leader of Vinnytsia wrote on his Facebook and Telegram pages.

The Republic of Poland went through a difficult path to becoming a free state. Divided between three empires - Prussian, Austro-Hungarian and Russian, it was revived in November 1918 after the end of the First World War and the fall of the empires. Although in the 20th century many dramatic events were still waiting for Poland. However, the people defended their right to a free life.

"The Poles know very well what the 'Russian world' entails and how much courage and unity is needed to resist it," Serhii Morhunov notes. "Today, Poland is with us. And we feel this support not only at the level of the government, but at the level of Polish communities, ordinary people. And it's worth a lot. Poland is more than a strategic partner, more than a good neighbor - it is true friends and allies. Polish cities were the first to extend a helping hand to Vinnytsia - our sister city Kielce, our partners Radom, Rzeszów, Warsaw, Krakow, Lublin, Łódź, Wrocław, Bydgoszcz, Opole, Tarnów, Poznań, Gdansk, Katowice, and the list can be continued."

According to the mayor of Vinnytsia, ties between Ukrainians and Poles, which have passed the test of time and history, are only getting stronger every day.

"I am sure that we will continue to move together towards a common future in the European community. After all, we have common values - dignity, freedom and mutual support," says Serhii Morhunov. "Long live Poland! Zwycięstwo będzie nasze! Dziękuję za wsparcie! Niech żyje Polska!".
